Geoff as Comedy Teacher

Right... Let's not forget the main purpose of this website - to promote Parfitt Enterprises Incorporated.

Firstly, do you need a COMEDY TEACHER? Somebody who can put on a Comedy Writing Course, a Stand-Up Comedy Workshop, or something more or less specific to do with comedy? I'm your man. Since 1999 I have prepared and presented many ten-week courses for comedy writing and stand-up performance.

Comedy writing includes such a variety of forms that I've found that it's best to focus for a particular course. My Comedy Scriptwriting courses at Stratford-upon-Avon College have been primarily designed to help writers of situation comedy. Classes are used not only to talk theory but to perform full scripts and discuss them to aid further development.

However, that isn't the only option. The main professional opportunity for most comedy writers is selling sketches for TV and radio... (Certainly true for me!) ...and such are the diverse nature of such sketch writing opportunities, and the skills needed to write them, that a ten week course could just as well be devoted to that.

I've often thought that it would be a good idea to organise one-off Sketch Writing Workshops whenever a market for comedy sketches opens up. I'm talking about "Smack The Pony" or "TV To Go" rather than "News Huddlines". I have video recordings of many sketch shows which I could use. With a little encouragement, I could organise something.

I also can devise one-off workshops for a specific purpose or audience. Most recently, I presented a one-off session on Stand-Up Comedy to supplement the Performing Arts degree course at Brookes University in Oxford.

If you'd like more information about that, do get in touch. Perhaps I could do something similar for the Performing Arts degree course at the college where you are the Programme Manager? Oh, you're not? Well, let me know when you are.

To sum up, if there are any comedy teaching ideas that I haven't mentioned which you're looking for, get in touch anyway. I'm sure I can do it for you.
